Message from the President
Hello and Welcome;
On behalf of Canada’s Physician Assistants and the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants, I welcome you. You have a unique opportunity to help develop or learn about the culture and identify of Canada’s Physician Assistants. Only a short time ago, the only PA in clinical practice in Canada were found in the Canadian Forces; now we are part of a thriving and innovated profession expanding across Canada. Physician Assistants are making a difference.
The Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) is the national organization that advocates for the further development of the Physician – Physician Assistant model of health care delivery. With our physician partners and other members of the health care team we are further developing relationships to strengthen and improve access to quality care. Your contributions as a professional can help educate those you work with and help provide care for on the potentials and the advantages of Physician Assistants. We welcome you to join your national Canadian PA organization the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants, and be part of our efforts to do the same.
CAPA offers through the Physician Assistant Certification Council (PACC) a national certification examination, a growing list of member services including Continuing Medical Education, Prescribers Letter, and MD Briefcase with further information throughout this website. Other member services includes developing relationships in a growing community of professionals, the member rate at the Annual Conference (held October), and the privilege to speak out and contribute on issues at the Annual General Meeting. CAPA advocates on behalf of your profession at all levels of government attending National and International meetings, further creating opportunities for Canada’s PA. CAPA has established a national standard for education of Canadian PA, a scope of practice outlined in an Occupational Competency Profile, and accreditation standards through the Canadian Medical Association.
CAPA is a national organization of volunteers who believe they can make a difference improving patient care and improving access to quality care through the use of the Physician – Physician Assistant model. I welcome you to our profession. It is an exciting time, in an exciting profession, and I know you will make a difference.
